About
Anastasia Velluti is a Sydney based artist, specialising in print and textiles.
Her artistic practice draws upon theatrical forms - especially the spirit of ‘Commedia Dell’ Arte’ with its archetypal masks and storytelling.
She views these characters not just as performers but as ancestral roles performed again and again generationally. Not just metaphorically, but physically - in posture, adornment, gesture and muscle memory. Through clothing and movement her works ponder the way certain patterns emerge and repeat themselves.
She evokes a reverence for the handmade and treats materials as memory carriers. Often collecting and upcycling found fabrics, using texture as a language to reveal how history lives in the body.
Decay leading to rebirth. Her work seeks to explore the deeper question of how cultural memory is embodied, masked and reworn.
